Letaba Nursery lies in the beautiful fertile valley of the Broederstroomdrift area of Tzaneen. It can be reached either by travelling on the R71 road to Phalaborwa , or from the R36 road to Lydenburg. The nursery takes up roughly 5 hectares of the Riverbend Farm owned by Mr Johan Bergmann. Water for irrigation comes from a borehole on the farm, although the majority of the irrigation is fed from the Letaba River which originates from the Tzaneen Dam . The catchment area for this dam is in the breathtaking Magoeboeskloof mountain range.
In 1972 , Letaba Nursery was originally owned by Kirchhoff’s Seed. During that time it was used as a Wholesale Nursery supplying Durant Seed Nursery as well as other wholesale and retail nurseries as far as the Cape.
In 1978 Johan Bergmann was given the opportunity to purchase a portion of 16ha of the farm. At the beginning of August 2016 , Johan Bergmann started a well deserved pension. The offer to take over the nursery arose and Eric Schubert and Malcolm Yeomans formed a partnership and took over the Nursery portion of the farm.
Almost all of our plants are propagated at the nursery itself. We specialise in Camellias , Azaleas and Bougainvillea, although many more plant varieties are also being grown here. We are also constantly expanding our variety to those plants suited to our area and to those in demand from Landscapers, Nurseries and plant lovers alike. We sell to the Local area as well as dispatching orders to Gauteng on a bi-monthly basis. We hope to expand our sales to the Free State area soon.
